Founded in 1981, Operation Food Search is a hunger relief organization that provides free food, nutrition education and innovative programs proven to reduce food insecurity. With a strategic focus aimed at ending childhood hunger, OFS empowers families and increases access to healthy and affordable food. The agency provides food and services to 200,000 individuals on a monthly basis – one-third of whom are children – through a network of 330 community partners in 27 Missouri and Illinois counties and the city of St. Louis. Poverty rates remain above 10% in the St. Louis area (as of 2019). For black individuals, this number is even higher (21.2%). By helping to ease the burden of certain basic needs, cash relief can open the door for individuals and families to improve their financial situation. A handful of families in the Nourishing Healthy Starts program were among these numbers. Unfortunately, 100% of our time was occupied preparing fantastic ballpark scran, so we did not take any photographs. But these games provided the first appearance of Students4STL merch! After a hiatus following its hard work during the Soccer4STL event, exquisite graphic design was on display once again! A beautiful Saturday helped spur foot traffic outside Vintage Vinyl, who graciously allowed us to pester individuals to join our 50/50 raffle. In the end, we raised ~$950, and our raffle winner (Pam) re-donated her winnings to the cause.
